What we can't tell you · FOI required
How many religious hate crimes does each police force record, by the religion targeted?
FOI required The data is held by a public authority but not published; a Freedom of Information request is the route to it.
Why
The Home Office hate crime appendix tables give hate crimes by police force area only by strand (race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, transgender); the targeted-religion breakdown is published only for England and Wales excluding the Metropolitan Police. The targeted-religion marker has been collected from every force through the Annual Data Requirement since April 2016, so each force and the Home Office hold the figure.
What is known
What is not known
- Targeted religion by force for all religions and years
Who holds the data
- Home Office
- Police forces in England and Wales
Would a Freedom of Information request help?
Possibly. The field is held per offence by every force; the Home Office may cite section 22 (intended future publication) within its annual cycle, but forces answer directly.
Privacy and disclosure restrictions
Small counts at force level; responses typically round or suppress cells under five.
