What this measures
Usual residents on Census Day 2021 by religious affiliation as answered on the voluntary census question, using the nine published categories of Census 2021 table TS030 (No religion; Christian; Buddhist; Hindu; Jewish; Muslim; Sikh; Other religion; Not answered).
What this doesn’t measure
Religious practice, attendance or belief; denominations within a religion; people who did not answer are a published category, not an estimate.
Important caveat
The census religion question is voluntary and asks about religious affiliation, not practice or belief. People who left it blank are a published category ("Not answered" in 2021, "Religion not stated" in 2011) and are never removed from the total. "Other religion" groups every write-in religion together.
