What this measures

The number of enforced returns from the UK in a 12-month period, comprising enforced removals (from detention or not) and other returns from detention.

What this doesn’t measure

Voluntary returns, people refused entry at port who then departed, or deportations as a legal category on their own.

Important caveat

Returns figures for the most recent seven quarters are provisional, marked "[p]" in the source table, and are revised in later publications. Other verified voluntary returns in particular are revised upwards as departures are identified in later data matching, so recent voluntary return totals will rise. Enforced and voluntary returns exclude people refused entry at port who subsequently departed, which the Home Office publishes as a separate category.
