What this measures

Use of force reports in England and Wales in the year ending March split by the ethnicity of the person involved, self-defined where given and otherwise as perceived by the officer, with "Not reported" as its own category.

What this doesn’t measure

Rates per head of population (the Home Office publishes its own in Table 15), the severity of force, or anything about the offending of the person involved.

Important caveat

Ethnicity in a use of force report is self-defined by the person where they gave it and otherwise as perceived by the officer, so the two are mixed in one column; "Not reported" is published separately and kept here as its own category. A report is a measure of police activity in an incident and says nothing about the person's offending. British Transport Police reports are included in the England and Wales total.
