What was Band D council tax in my area before 2020, on today's boundaries?

Partial Official data answers part of the question: some categories, some years, some geographies or one stage of a process.

Why

MHCLG has published Band D council tax for every English billing authority each March since 1993, but only from the 2020 to 2021 edition does the area table print an ONS area code beside each authority. Earlier editions identify authorities by name alone, across four sheets by class of authority. Matching those names to today's areas would mean deciding, without the published table saying so, which modern authority an abolished district became and which figure should stand for it. The national average Band D is published as a time series and is carried here from 2011.

Unlikely. The older figures are published; what is missing is the code that would attach them to an area without a judgement. No authority holds a restated series on current boundaries.
