How this ranking is made

Recorded crimes and offences per 10,000 residents: the rate per 10,000 the Scottish Government publishes for the area, unchanged.. Crimes and offences recorded by the police per 10,000 population, from Table 4 of the annual Recorded Crime in Scotland bulletin. The rate is the publisher's own, using National Records of Scotland mid-year population estimates. The newest financial year published for each area.

Percentiles are calculated across the whole UK, so they do not change when the table is filtered to one nation. A ranking compares areas of very different sizes and populations; the figure is the publisher’s own, and its rank is Civometry’s ordering of those published figures.

Dundee City has the highest recorded crimes and offences per 10,000 residents of 32 UK local authorities with a published figure, at 929 (Latest published: Year ending March 2026). Source: Scottish Government: Recorded Crime in Scotland: bulletin tables.
